Xiaomi Begins Mass Production of BN58 Series Batteries for Flagship Phones
Beijing, October 2025 — BN58 targets higher energy density, cooler operation, and faster PD charging for upcoming Mi and Redmi flagships.
Xiaomi has started mass production of its BN58 smartphone battery series for next-generation Mi and Redmi devices. The BN58 design focuses on compact endurance with a stacked-layer lithium polymer structure and upgraded silicon-carbon anode materials, enabling a rated 5300mAh capacity without increasing physical size.
What is new in BN58
Compared with the BN54 family, Xiaomi reports improved energy retention and tighter thermal control during fast charging. The cell is tuned for high-power USB-C PD profiles and dynamic voltage regulation to reduce heat spikes across repeated charge cycles.
BN58 vs BN54 at a glance
| Metric | BN54 (previous gen) | BN58 (new) |
|---|---|---|
| Nominal capacity | ~5000mAh class | ~5300mAh class |
| Energy retention | Baseline | Up to +12% improvement |
| Thermal stability under fast charge | Standard control | Up to +18% improvement |
| Charging compatibility | High-power PD supported | Tuned for 120W PD with DVR |
| Cell construction | Conventional stacked polymer | Stacked polymer with silicon-carbon anode |
“BN58 focuses on chemistry optimization rather than capacity inflation. The goal is longer life, cooler charging, and stable performance,” said Li Junhao, Xiaomi Battery R&D Director.
Industry impact and rollout
The BN58 line reinforces a broader industry pivot toward high-density smartphone batteries that prioritize efficiency, safety, and recyclability. Xiaomi indicates first commercial use in Mi 15 Pro and Redmi K80 Ultra, with wider adoption expected in early 2026. Design adjustments also align with upcoming EU replaceable battery requirements, easing future after-sales maintenance and recycling.
